Αμέσως μετά τον σεισμό το αμερικανικό κέντρο έγκαιρης προειδοποίησης για τσουνάμι στον Ειρηνικό (PTWC) εξέδωσε προειδοποίηση για «επικίνδυνα» θαλάσσια κύματα, ο κίνδυνος όμως όπως αναφέρει σε νεώτερη ανακοίνωσή του έχει εξαλειφθεί.
